Two newly published studies show the positive impact of Healthy ��ԭ�� Together, a comprehensive pandemic response program, in ��ԭ��, California. The program, which provided access to regular COVID-19 testing, promoted vaccinations and other safety precautions, and supported local businesses, reduced test positivity rates, prevented illness and saved lives, the studies found.

Workshop on Universities in Public Health Response to Pandemic

April 26-28 — The University of California, ��ԭ��, will host a workshop that explores lessons learned through university and community partnerships during the COVID-19 pandemic in hopes of lessening devastating consequences locally, nationally and globally as well as aiding in prevention of future epidemics and pandemics. Plenary sessions featuring case studies will be available to the public by livestream.

Ken Burtis to Receive Distinguished Emeriti Award

Wastewater Monitoring for Public Health

Since September 2020, University of California, ��ԭ��, researchers have been monitoring wastewater on the UC ��ԭ�� campus and in the city of ��ԭ�� for COVID-19 through the Healthy ��ԭ�� Together program. A new article published Feb. 8 in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences reviews their experiences and the advantages and limitations of wastewater testing as a public health tool in the COVID-19 pandemic.

Omicron Variant Detected in More Areas of Yolo County

The UC ��ԭ�� Genome Center has detected and confirmed an additional 42 cases of the B.1.1.529 (omicron) variant of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, in Yolo County, specifically in ��ԭ��, El Macero, West Sacramento and Woodland. The Genome Center had previously detected only two omicron cases, both in West Sacramento. The variant has also been detected in trace amounts in the city of ��ԭ��’ sewage through Healthy ��ԭ�� Together’s wastewater monitoring initiative.

HDT to Rearrange Its Testing Operations

Healthy ��ԭ�� Together, or HDT, announced it is closing its COVID-19 testing site at the Farm House at The Cannery in north ��ԭ�� after this Friday (Nov. 5). Officials said the move will allow the UC ��ԭ��-city of ��ԭ�� partnership to consolidate operations and boost symptomatic testing capacity at the HDT site at Research Park location in south ��ԭ��.
