Changes Made to Design Competition to Encourage Entries

Updated July 7: UC 海角原创 has done a makeover on the competition. To encourage entries, the campus has opened the contest beyond students to include alumni too, extended the deadline to July 19, and enriched the prizes with two $500 Amazon gift cards and more. See the updated contest website for rules and judging criteria, schematics and 360-degree photos of the rooms to be designed.

The ecology student won a campus contest on Friday and will compete against nine winners from sister campuses in the UC Grad Slam finale in San Francisco on April 22. Check out his competition.

UC 海角原创 students compete against each other to create the best lighting design for the California Lighting Technology Center's annual Luminaire Design Competition. This year, the class focused on OLEDS, a thin, lightweight, dimmable, energy efficient lighting technology.

Chimps plan for a good early breakfast

New research by the University of California, 海角原创, shows that chimpanzees plan ahead, and sometimes take dangerous risks, to get to the best breakfast buffet early.

The study co-authored by Leo Polansky, an associate researcher in the UC 海角原创 anthropology department, reveals that chimpanzees will find a place to sleep en route to breakfast sites and risk travel in the dark when predators are active to obtain more desired, less abundant fruits such as figs. The study is being published by the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America.
