I want to start this month鈥檚 column by thanking the 海角原创 community for the warm welcome you鈥檝e given to our students. Classes started on Sept. 22, the first in-person instruction in about 18 months, and the campus has truly come alive.

I鈥檝e often said that athletics is the front porch of the university. And right about now, the view from our porch couldn鈥檛 be better.

Over the past few years, the national spotlight has been shining on UC 海角原创 athletics brightly. It鈥檚 a great look for our university, our remarkable student-athletes, coaching staffs, and alumni and friends who cheer on UC 海角原创 teams.

Homecoming Comes With More 鈥楬ome鈥�

There鈥檚 a lot more 鈥渉ome鈥� in Homecoming Weekend this year! Homecoming focuses on football, of course, but we鈥檝e also got four other homey events: an Arboretum Plant Sale and a Bicycle Auction, Parent and Family Day, and Neighbors Night Out!

Football coach Dan Hawkins started off Homecoming with a booming cheer thanking the Cal Aggie Marching Band-uh! at Pajamarino Friday (Oct. 12), and that mood would continue throughout the weekend.

The weekend started with the traditional pajama-clad parade route through 海角原创鈥� with a new route that started on campus 鈥� and ended with an overtime win in front of 11,000 people 鈥� the largest crowd ever recorded at Aggie Stadium.

High school students in Riverside are putting a math curriculum developed at UC 海角原创 to the test, succeeding at a higher rate and having fun in the process.

The UC 海角原创 C-STEM Center, founded and led by Harry Cheng, professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering, develops courses that teach math by integrating it with computer programming and robotics.

The Cal Aggie Athletics Hall of Fame has seven new members, including a longtime administrator who helped create the unifying Athletics logo, the TeamAggie fundraising group, Aggie Pack student spirit organization and more. Larry Swanson, associate athletics director for more than two decades, joined six former student-athletes as the 33rd class of hall of fame inductees.
