Newest Hellman Fellows Have Wide Range of Expertise

The work of 12 early-career faculty members will get a boost as this year鈥檚 class of Hellman Fellows. They will receive grants ranging from $16,000 to $49,000, for a total of $330,000 awarded.

Their work covers a wide range of topics, from the educational experiences of Venezuelan immigrants to a wireless device that monitors for seizures.

Academic Affairs Vice Provost Phil Kass recently named UC 海角原创鈥� 11th class of Hellman Fellows: 11 assistant professors who received a total of $244,000 in grants for research in a wide range of disciplines.

In engineering, for example, Seongkyu Lee is researching the noise generated by electrical vertical aircraft, a mode of transportation he calls transformative and an enhancement to human life. He is working toward 鈥渜uiet鈥� operation as a way to 鈥渋ncrease public acceptance of small-sized urban aircraft flying in heavily populated cities.鈥�
