What Is Science Outreach and Why Is It Important?

How are UC ��ԭ�� scientists educating the public about the important research conducted on their campus? And how can outreach improve science?

UC ��ԭ�� is a premier research institution where cutting-edge science is conducted daily by dedicated faculty, staff and students. One of the most important aspects of science is sharing knowledge gained from experiments and research studies.

Students Prepare for Undergraduate Research Conference

UC ��ԭ�� student Natasha Bibbs of Sacramento has already gone places with academic research — and she hopes to go even further.

The fourth-year student travelled about 2,000 miles to Louisiana and more than 150 years back in time to discover how someone she believes is an ancestor — perhaps her great-great-grandfather — became one of the first Black doctors in his community and used his status to contribute to the African American community.

WarnMe Test on April 30

UC ��ԭ�� will test its emergency notification system at noon Wednesday, April 30.

WarnMe messages provide information and directions regarding emergencies that pose an immediate threat to life and safety. Aggie Alert messages, sent using the same system and contact information, provide notification about events on and around ��ԭ�� campus facilities that may cause disruption to normal activities.

Give Day Sets New Fundraising Record

The spirit of Give Day was in full swing as the UC ��ԭ�� community rallied together for the ninth annual celebration, held over Picnic Day weekend. With more than 4,100 donations made both online and in person, this year’s event raised nearly $4.5 million — surpassing the previous dollar amount record of $4.1 million set in 2022.

Statement from Chancellor Gary S. May on Federal Immigration Enforcement Actions

Updated April 25: A total of 14 UC ��ԭ�� students and nine recent graduates have had their F-1 visas terminated. Beginning April 24, the federal government has reinstated the visa status of 10 of the 23 students and recent graduates, while the other 13 remain in terminated status.

Remembrance Ceremony to Honor Aggies Lost in the Past Year

The university will hold the second annual Remembrance Ceremony on May 19 from noon-1 p.m. at the UC ��ԭ�� Conference Center Ballrooms. The ceremony provides a space for the university community to honor the students, faculty and staff we have lost in the past year.

Q&A: How Tech Foundry Hopes to Have an Impact at Aggie Square

When a researcher at UC ��ԭ�� needs a tool that doesn’t exist, they often turn to Tech Foundry, a facility that uses 3D printers, CNC machines and laser cutters to create one-of-a-kind devices and prototypes.

The development facility, known previously as the TEAM Lab, is operated by the Department of Biomedical Engineering and has had a location in ��ԭ�� for more than 15 years, and is now in the process of opening a second space in Aggie Square.

Picnic Day 2025 Wrapped

The 111th edition of Picnic Day, one of the largest student-run events in the country, took place Saturday (April 12), with tens of thousands in attendance.

From animal events to coffee tastings, the campuswide event had something for everyone, including multiple live performances, exhibits and live demonstrations that brought all corners of campus to life and invited the public to see what happens every day at UC ��ԭ��.
