Still ‘Bicycle Friendly,’ Still Platinum!

UC ��ԭ�� is as bicycle friendly as ever with the announcement Wednesday (March 9) by the League of American Bicyclists that it had renewed the ��ԭ�� campus’s designation as a platinum-level Bicycle Friendly University for four more years.

New La Rue: Bike Lanes and Boxes, Plus Parking

With apologies to an old riddle: What’s black and green and white (striped) all over?

Answer: La Rue Road in front of UC ��ԭ�� Health Stadium, between Garrod Drive and Hutchison Drive. The black is the new pavement laid down in the road’s reconstruction (the southbound lanes last summer, the northbound lanes this summer).

UC ��ԭ�� Bike Expert David Takemoto-Weerts Retiring

When UC ��ԭ�� bike guru David Takemoto-Weerts takes a vacation trip to a city, he doesn’t photograph the usual landmarks.

“I’ll ask to see his pictures and they’re all of bike racks,” said his wife, Barbara Takemoto-Weerts.

Bikes are special every day at UC ��ԭ�� (well, except, perhaps, when we’re riding in the rain!), so we’re hard-pressed to think of a way to give bikes even more attention. But we’ll give it the old college try over the next week or so with the campus’s biannual Bike Auction and the ASUCD Bike Barn’s annual “yard” sale.

This year, the yard sale turns into a garage sale in the barn’s center portion, formerly used by Outdoor Adventures. The Bike Barn, which previously occupied the barn’s south end, took over the center portion last year to use as a warehouse and parts room.
