The University of California, ��ԭ��, has launched a website and video series titled, “From Labs to Lives,” to highlight federally funded research, describe how the research benefits the public, and share the consequences to the public if funding is reduced or eliminated.

NSF CAREER Awards Keep on Coming

A UC ��ԭ�� record 19 assistant professors received National Science Foundation CAREER awards in the 2020-21 funding cycle. The five-year grants are especially noteworthy for supporting early-career faculty not only in their research but also in their development as outstanding educators.

UC ��ԭ�� Receives NSF Funding for Engineering, Sciences, Artificial Intelligence for HSIs

The University of California, ��ԭ��, received more than $1 million in grants from the National Science Foundation to convene and engage faculty, researchers and industry experts in expanding research and undergraduate instruction at Hispanic Serving Institutions and Minority Serving Institutions, or HSIs and MSIs. The grants focus on computing fields identified as national priorities by the U.S. Office of Science and Technology Policy.

The Graduate School of Management received the grants.

Key Advance: UC ��ԭ�� Neuroscientists Get a New Look into How We Read

Neuroscientists at UC ��ԭ�� have come up with a way to observe brain activity during natural reading. It’s the first time researchers have been able to study the brain while reading actual texts, instead of individual words, and it’s already helping settle some ideas about just how we read.

“It’s a key advance in understanding reading in the brain, because people are just reading normally,” said John Henderson, professor of psychology at the UC ��ԭ�� Center for Mind and Brain. The work was published today (April 6) in the Journal of Neuroscience.
