Steven Jon Seybold, a lecturer and researcher in the Department of Entomology and Nematology, and a researcher with the U.S. Forest Service, died Nov. 15 at Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento, of a heart condition. He was 60.

He was born in Madison, Wisconsin, and earned a bachelor’s degree in forestry at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He attended UC Berkeley for graduate school, earning a Ph.D. in forest entomology, specializing in pine bark beetles.
He did postdoctoral work at Berkeley and the University of Nevada, Reno, then served as a research assistant professor at UNR and assistant professor at the University of Minnesota before returning to California in 2002.
His Forest Service assignment was in º£½ÇÔ´´, at the Pacific Southwest Research Station. He had a research emphasis on chemical ecology of forest insects.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday (Nov. 22) at Smith Funeral Home, º£½ÇÔ´´. A service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday (Nov. 23) at St. James Catholic Church, with interment at a later date at Forest Hill Cemetery, Madison.
