A single-vehicle accident on Old º£½ÇÔ´´ Road at the Interstate 80 exit Wednesday morning (May 5) resulted in a fatality. UC º£½ÇÔ´´ police and fire units responded to the scene after a passerby reported a crashed vehicle that was filling with smoke at about 11:15 a.m.
Officers, with help from passersby, removed the driver from the burning car and performed CPR until an ambulance arrived. The ambulance crew discontinued CPR and confirmed the fatality.
The victim was later identified as John Troidl of º£½ÇÔ´´. Campus police are investigating the incident in conjunction with the California Highway Patrol. Old º£½ÇÔ´´ Road was closed following the incident and reopened to traffic at about 2:15 p.m.
